As the evening approached we were in a good position with lots of ballast. Clive and Luc could see a thunderstorm coming in but we thought we could keep going and fly for another hour to see if we could overtake the German teams.

We’ve just landed because there are thunderstorms all around. We had a truly spectacular flight with amazing views over the Alps – Mont Blanc, The Matterhorn… Incredible. We’re both ok. Nige and Bob have just turned up so we’re going to sort the balloon out and I’ll give more details of the flight later.

Well done guys!

We’ve had a very long day and have hardly stopped but we have been fully rewarded by the fantastic mountain views. The views from the balloon must be astonishing as we have had very clear skies all day they must have had amazing views of the Alps as they flew over.

The temperatures have reached 30 degrees and the air con is still not working. Nige has lost about a stone in weight; I can hardly see him is he turns side on!!! We’re now down to just underpants, we’ve ditched the bikinis.

We’ve just passed Innsbruck and plan to keep going for while.

The balloon is flying really well as we have got used to flying it, it is a bit lighter as we have used a lot the ballast (sand bags) to fly over the Alps at 16-17000 ft. Simon & I are feeling good as it’s been quite sunny and we have successfully flown over Northern Italy and heading towards Austria

It's been a high flight from the start for everybody to get us over the mountains.  Last night there was a starlit sky, nice all round and the track meant we missed Mont Blanc .We’ve been very busy throughout the flight but we’re both doing fine. We had a problem today getting Milan ATC on the radio but that’s all sorted now.

The Bristol Half Marathon is just going past the Bristol Hotel on Prince Street with crowds cheering on the runner which made it a bit difficult to speak to Dave. We politely asked them to quieten down, which obviously they did.....well, do they know how important our job is right now!!!

All is going well with the guys. Luc and I are working hard on the weather and deciding on the next plan of action.

We left Tallard at 2am after a successful and emotionally charged launch. We have driven through the night so we are both extremely tired but the weather and mountain scenery of the Bernese Oberland is extraordinary.

I am thoroughly enjoying Nige’s mega mix music collection.

One slight problem is that the air con in the car has stopped working so we have had to strip down to our bikinis!!!

We are planning a break shortly to grab some breakfast before getting back on the road.

Now 3:30 am, the guys are doing well, have clearance from Milan ATC to transit airspace, cruising at 15,000 feet on oxygen and spirits are high, the view over the Alps was fantastic but they were happy not to be flying over the high peaks, eagerly awaiting sunrise to warm up a bit. Luc is sleeping for a couple of hours and wewill look at the game plan at 5:30

This year the GB will be difficult because of bad weather developing over France and also with the launch in the Alps.

The first night will be fantastic flying over the Alps in the full moon.

A lot of work is required tonight to plan tomorrow to avoid the showers which will develop over the Alps and Germany.
