At 18.40 pm on Sunday evening David Hempleman-Adams and Simon Carey in their gas balloon Lady Luck landed in Worgl in Austria, due to thunder storms looking at coming in close proximity. They had had an amazing flight over the French Alps, the Swiss Alps, and the Austrian Alps and ended in fourth place.

Three of the 11 gas balloons that took off on Saturday night, from Gap in France have now landed as we go into first day of the race. This included teams from America, Germany & Switzerland.

David Hempleman-Adams is still flying with his co-pilot Simon Carey and in good spirits. David has been feeling a bit stiff as he hurt his knee the day before they took off and there is not much space to stretch out in the confined space of the basket.

Twelve teams of gas balloonists from all over the world, including the adventurer David Hempleman-Adams launched from Gap in Southern France for the Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race 2011. The Gas Balloon Race, which is the “Olympics” of ballooning with winner using their skills to see who can fly the furthest from the take off point, started at after 10.00 pm on Saturday night with one balloon being launched at a time.

The International Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race, the oldest air race in the world launches on Saturday night 10th September 2011 from Gap in France with our award winning British team David Hempleman-Adams, the world-class epic explorer and Simon Carey, a senior airline captain. After his fantastic win in the United States in 2008, when he spent 4 days in a small wicker basket suspended under a gas balloon, David brought the Gas Balloon Race to the UK for the first time last year.

British Team has landed after 4 nights in the Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race!

At 11.07 am this morning David Hempleman-Adams and Simon Carey in their CMC gas balloon landed in Serbia due to deteriorating weather conditions. The retrieve crew were close by when David landed; they have retrieved for David before and always aim to be there within 5 minutes on landing. They have been in the air since 12.30 am Sunday morning

Wilhelm Eimers for the German team landed at 10.00 in Moldova giving him second place.
